How to Xmatize your logo (Tutorial)

I will start writing up tutorials on all the different things I do to my logo as I modify them to match the season, ie. Halloween style, Xmas style and whatever else I do.

Ok so, create a new document in Photoshop, whatever size you want it and fill the background with a dark colour (so you can see the snow better).
You may want to make a box of colour a bit smaller than your box and use the Gaussian Blur by selecting your layer and going    Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur… and making the blur about 2.0 like I did. Then use the Type tool to type your text.

Next, use the lasso tool and start drawing your selection on one of your letters, to add different sections without losing what you have already selected, use the Add to Selection option in the menu bar.

This part takes the most time, make your snow look runny/drippy.

Now switch to your ‘Channels’ palette Window>Channels and create a new channel by clicking on the icon to create a new channel. This will automatically create a channel called Alpha 1 (mare sure that’s the only one viewable). Then press “D” to reset your colours and use the paint bucket tool and fill the selections white.

It should look something like this:

Once happy with that, depending whether Macintosh/Microsoft, deselect by pressing, COMMAND/CTRL+D.
Then go to: Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur… Radius:3px
After that go to Image>Adjustments>Levels, This will allow you to move the sliders to make your snow sharp and smooth.

Now go back to your ‘Layers’ palette and create a new layer.
Go to Select>Load Selection, Now in the ‘Channel Field’ Select ‘Alpha 1′ on your current document.
Then fill in the new selection on your layer with white.

You should have something similar to this:

To make your snow look fluffy add a bevel emboss style to it: Layer>Layer Style>Bevel Emboss and use these settings:

It should now look like this:

Now you have your snow just how you want it, try using some different layer styles on your text.
I used the Bevel Emboss tool to make it 3D and the Colour Overlay to make it red and green (for Christmas obviously).

Here is the final piece:

I then added snowfall over the top of it for that extra Christmas feel, the tutorial for making snow in Photoshop is HERE.
